History

Snyder Jewelers was founded in 1979 by the late Gary Snyder. Gary entered the jewelry business as a wholesale supplier of Estate and Antique Jewelry to shops and merchants in Cape Cod and Boston. As the business grew he began attending antique shows and auctions as an exhibitor to supply his product to the public. At the age of 14 Mark Snyder began attending the shows and auctions with his father, to learn the business. In 1988 Gary and Mark took a location in the Boston Jewelers Building to establish a "home base" for their retail operations as well as their wholesale distribution. They also began selling modern jewelry on a large scale along with their vintage jewelry.

In May of 1991 Mark Snyder graduated from Curry College in Milton and began spending even more time with the business. In February of 1992 the Snyders were told of a small start-up jewelry store in Weymouth, which was for sale. Due to the poor business climate in Boston and the fact that both Gary & Mark are from the South Shore (Whitman), they jumped at the chance to try and move their business to the South Shore.

Currently Snyder Jewelers has been located in Weymouth for 19+ years and moved to their brand new location at 89 Pleasant St., in March 2010. The new location is still in Columbian Square, and is in the old station #5 fire house (across from the South Shore Savings Bank and the South Weymouth Post Office). After purchasing the building Mark Snyder fully renovated it to house Snyder Jewelers. Great care was taken to preserve a "fire station" feel and design. The fire pole was resurrected, the original ceiling exposed and the walls are adorned with old photos of this building built in 1937.

Snyder Jewelers carries a full line of Diamonds (certified & un-certified) and Diamond Jewelry as well as Modern Karat Gold Jewelry, Sterling Silver Jewelry, Colored Gemstone Jewelry, Pearls, and Citizen Watches. Snyder Jewelers is also a full service jewelry store providing Watch Repairs, Jewelry Repairs, Custom Jewelry Design , Insurance Appraisals, and Watch Batteries (installed) and Watch Straps (installed). In 2004 a computerized engraver was added to their arsenal of services. Engraving of jewelry, metal, giftware, glass and plastic is now available on-site.
